“Distracted driving is an epidemic.” says US Transportation Secretary, Ray LaHood while kicking off today’s second annual Distracted Driving Summit in Washington D.C. LaHood also announced new regulations intended to prevent in-car cell phone distractions. LaHood also had federal statistics on hand that estimate 5,500 people died in 2009 in cell phone distracted driving accidents, while another 450,000 were injured. LaHood admitted that these numbers may only be the “tip of the ice-burg”, because many traffic reports don’t document whether a cell phone was even involved. [click to continue…]
