Car Collector and fan of all things automotive, Tonight Show’s Jay Leno says he’s not so excited about the upcoming Chevy Volt. The comedian is normally a big fan of Detroit steel – but not this time! GM may want to find someone else to help promote Volt, maybe Conan O’Brien?
Last year General Motors execs gave Jay Leno a Volt prototype to help generate buzz around the highly anticipated electric car that launches this fall. But the celebrity gearhead said he is underwhelmed by the car’s design.
“If you didn’t know, you might think it’s a Cobalt or a Camry…” Leno said of Chevy’s new long-range electric vehicle. “I don’t think there’s a lot of cachet in having the first one.” The comedian with a 17,000-square-foot garage in his home explained that Volt probably won’t get much attention if you pulled into Bob’s Big Boy parking and popped the hood. Bob’s Big Boy is a favorite classic-car hot spot in Burbank, California.
Despite his enthusiasm toward the Detroit automotive industry Jay Leno probably isn’t the right pitch man for the Chevy Volt. Jay seems like a traditional car enthusiast, more impressed with horse power than Volt’s green technology – or its ultra cool Google Android powered diagnostic systems.
